Local authorities
Parenting Support: Guidance for Local Authorities in England (published by the DCFS in October 2006) provided guidance on how local authorities could meet the needs of parents. Numerous papers have been published since, with policy initiatives across the piece touching on the issue of good-enough parenting and effective support for parents.
We have worked with a number of local authorities to help them to meet the needs of local parents at both a practical and a strategic level. For example, in North Tyneside we developed a training day to help professionals develop their parental engagement skills; in Lewisham we consulted parents as part of the development of their parenting strategy; in Greenwich we developed, and now independently host and support, their parents’ forum.
